The name “Makalu”, like many of the eight-thousand names, comes from Sanskrit. Maha Kala means “the big black one” in German, for a long time he was regarded as the highest mountain in the Himalayas, since even from India still well to recognize.
On May 15, 1955, the Makalu 8485m was climbed by a French mountaineering group for the first time. With a height of 8485m, the Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world and stands like many out of the “8000 club” in Nepal. This shapely mountain has distinctive pillars and is considered a demanding mountain. Join the expedition Makalu!
On September 24, 2009, Ueli solo-climbed the Makalu via the normal route (planned to be the West pillar).
